World Teachers' Day

We are excited to announce that on Tuesday, 8 October, Newhaven College will celebrate World Teachers' Day! This special day, which falls on the last weekend of the holidays, is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude to the dedicated educators who play a crucial role in laying the foundations for our students' future success in various ways.

We encourage our students and parents to join us in showing appreciation. Whether it's a heartfelt card, flowers from the garden, or a simple "thank you," every gesture is meaningful and appreciated. Let's come together to recognize and celebrate the incredible work our teachers do every day.

Thank you for your support in making this day special for our wonderful teachers.

The Biggest Morning Tea

Prep, Year 6, and Year 9 enjoyed The Biggest Morning Tea, hosted by the Year 9s. This event, which included parent invitations, showcased the advantages of being in a school that promotes cross-age interactions and opportunities.

R U OK? Day

To mark R U OK Day, we held a Wellbeing Lunchtime Club for our Junior School students. Fun games and activities took place in the assembly area, bringing students together for this important cause.

The Wellbeing team organised a coffee cart with free coffee for Year 12 students and staff, providing a much-needed reprieve and recharge.

Our team of social workers, counsellors and chaplain are committed to providing counselling and social support for Newhaven College and we look forward to what 2025 brings.

Father's Day Stall

The Parents & Friends Association's Fathers' Day Stall was held on Friday, 30 August. It was wonderful to see students from all year levels carefully select gifts for their fathers, grandfather's and special people in their lives. We hope these lucky people enjoyed opening their gifts!

Our Fathers' Day hamper lucky winners were drawn by Principal Tony Corr and our new Admissions Officer, Bec Anderson. The two lucky winners of the amazing hampers were Year 1 student Delilah Schellekens and Year 6 Molly Mackenzie.

Thank you to our volunteer helpers on the day, Kim Northover, Lisette Rule, Pharrah Underwood, Kelly Latham, Victoria Dunham, Denise Dillon, Cara Hammond, Jenni Lewandowski, Michelle Pardoe, Casey Bartlett and Jo Vohland.

Many thanks to the generous businesses that donated vouchers and gifts for the hampers: Bass Coast Boat & Caravan Storage, The Wooli Tavern and Hill Top Farm. Please support them when choosing to spend your hard earned money!

Footy Dress Up Day

On Friday 13 September, the College community dressed up in their favourite sports jerseys to celebrate their teams and raise some funds for Cancer Council. The College Year 12 Leaders put on a sausage sizzle and everyone had the chance to kick a footy around!

Donations are always welcome to the Newhaven College Cancer Council Fundraiser.

Remembering Karen Pearce

We recently marked two years since the passing of our beloved colleague, friend and teacher Karen Pearce. To commemorate this staff and students gathered in the Collect to rename the classroom she taught in for so many years in Middle School. Mr Ric Pearce and their daughter Ellie came along to the ceremony.

The room will now be known as Classroom 6P. This is a small gesture of commemoration for Karen and how much she meant to our school community.

Newhaven College Promotional Video

Many students and staff have participated in the filming of our new College video this week. We thank everyone for their patience and participation. We particularly appreciate the four parents from our Equestrian team who came especially to the Year 9 Environmental Centre to allow fresh footage to be made. Our MTB Academy also made a special visit.

Videographer Christian certainly exceeded his step count over the three days, traipsing from one end of the College grounds to the other!

School Fete
As you may have heard by now, our annual school fete will be held on Friday 8th November 2024 and we need your help to make it a fun day for our school!\

Volunteers
As always, we need parents to help! Even an hour can help! If you can lend a hand with our various stalls, please do so at: Newhaven College Fete 2024 (signup.zone). A reminder that in accordance with school policy, all volunteers must complete a volunteer pack and have a valid Working With Children Check.

Fete Planning Meeting
Our next fete planning meeting will be held next week at 1.30pm on 20 September 2024 in the school boardroom. Everyone in our school community is welcome to attend to help plan the event.

Local business support
Do you have a food truck or local business that would like to have a stall at the fete? Or would your business consider becoming a sponsor and donating a major prize for our Stars Lotto or a smaller gift/product or voucher for either the Stars Lotto or Silent Auction? Please don't hesitate to reach out to the PFA and we would be happy to discuss out you can support our event.

Donations
We need donations to support our various stalls. Do you have any of the following you could donate:

  • School uniforms that your children have outgrown for our second hand uniform stall;
  • Second books for our book stall; and
  • Random, unused gifts collecting in your cupboard for our silent auction. No gift is too small as it may be included in our silent auction hampers.

We will set up collection containers in the subschool and main reception from Term 4. However, in the meantime, please leave donations with main reception or email the PFA for collection.

Questions?
If you have any questions or would like to register your details to volunteer at future events, do not hesitate to reach out to us at newhaven.pfa@gmail.com
