SEISA Athletics

On 2 May Newhaven College participated at the SEISA Senior/ Intermediate Summer Athletics Carnival in Casey Fields, Pakenham.

It was a fantastic day, where 110 Newhaven College students displayed outstanding athletic prowess on a stunning Autumn day against our SEISA rivals. After some superb performances, I am happy to report that Newhaven College emerged victorious for a second consecutive year and 6 of our Athletes were named age group champions:

Prep- Year 6 House Cross Country

Our Preps-Year 6s were out on the trail Wednesday last week, giving it their all for their House Cross Country.

Parents and friends came along to cheer on our students from all year levels as they ran around the oval or further afield.

There was lots of colour, celebration and encouragement from the whole of Junior School.

Thank you to the Year 9 students who assisted along the track.

Year 5/6 District Soccer

On Friday 10 May our fearless 5/6's sent two teams to battle it out with Primary Schools across the District.

Both Teams made a fine start, winning their first games convincingly. The Girls went on to win their remaining Pool matches to be Pool winners and advance to the Finals. The Boys came close in their second, losing out to Newhaven Primary School. This meant that the Boys needed to win their final Pool match to advance to the Finals. Stunning goals from Blair and Jordy showed the teamwork and footballing skills of the Boys, however they just missed out to Our Lady Star of The Sea.

We all gathered to watch the Girls’ Final – as they took on Bass Valley Primary School. A free flowing match ensued, but ultimately the Girls came second on the day. It was a wonderful day of teamwork, encouragement, resilience and enjoyment which meant both Teams had a very successful day out.

Massive thanks to the teachers on the day.

Surfing Victoria Independent Schools State Titles

Newhaven College recently competed in the Surfing Vic Independent Schools State Titles. We entered two teams (Mixed/Girls). Both teams achieved amazing results with the mixed team placing 1st in their heat by an impressive margin and winning through to the finals where they placed 3rd overall.

Our girls left nothing out on the field and came away with an amazing 1st place earning them the title of state champs.

What a great result for our surfers. Well done team!

House Surfing

Earlier this term Newhaven College held its annual House Surfing competition with over 50 students attending and participating.

The conditions, albeit a bit windy and cold, really turned on and provided the perfect platform for our kids to put on a show. After trialing a brand new format, we are proud to crown, for the first time, overall male and female winners.

Congratulations Tate Russell and Evie Lutz both from Clarke House on being named the top surfers for the day. Congratulations Clarke House on taking out the house surfing trophy for 2024.

Watch some of action in the House Surfing Video.

Melbourne Schools MTB Competition

On 26 April our MTB team headed off to Redhill for the Melbourne Schools MTB Competition. We had one podium finish on the day with Jack Middleton in Year 11 taking a second place. There were no overall school standings released however we did have a solid presence amongst the 34 schools that were represented on the day.

Our best in each category;

Juniors (7&8), Maxen Mills, 9th out of 108 entrants

Intermediates (9&10), Ethan Tilley 20th, out of 54 entrants

Seniors (11&12), Jack Middleton 2nd , from 7 entrants

A positive day and the first event for a few of the boys which was great.

Ella shows them how it's done!

Year 8 student Ella Lomax (Sambell) ran in the ‘Running Wild Darby River' trail run at Wilson Promontory on 5 May and came first for the 7.5 km race in 42.52mins.

Due to a delay in placing the return marker, Ella ended running further than required but still came first in her category.

Well done Ella
