The Melbourne Firefighter Stair Climb 2024

Year 6 Teacher and community volunteer, Mr Simon Furniss recently completed the Firefighter Stair Climb to raise funds for Cancer Research and Crisis Support.

The climbers battled 28 floors in up to 25kg of turnout gear and breathing apparatus as a symbol of the burden of significant health and well-being issues faced by first responders and their families on a daily basis.

Simon was proud to take his part in the day, "What an incredible event. Over 800 firefighters and emergency services personnel participated in The Melbourne Firefighters Stair Climb, on Saturday 7 September 2024. It was one of the hardest physical and mental challenges that I have ever faced- but I did it! I climbed the 28 floors of the Crown Metropol – carrying 25 kilograms of equipment. A massive thank you to all those who supported me – I raised $1,720 for cancer research and mental health support workers. Incredible”.

Simon raised much of his funds through the support of our College students and families, saving up their recyclables to bring to Mr Furniss’ classroom, which he cashed in every week for dollars towards the fundraiser. A fantastic effort, which we are very proud of!
