The ‘Muffins and Mums’ morning was a great success, with mums, aunties, grandparents, and special guests attending. The children beamed with pride, and it was lovely to see our Newhaven College community come together to celebrate this special day on our calendar. Thank you to all who were able to come and share this very special morning with teachers and our Junior School children. Lots of photos are shared below.
Our last Junior School assembly showed our Grade 3 students celebrating Mother's Day with heartwarming words, a brief history of the occasion, and a beautiful song dedicated to the incredible female figures in children's lives. Well done to our Grade 3 cohort!
We strive to foster a culture of respect and equality across the entire school community. This term, our Junior School teachers have implemented a new program called Respectful Relationships. This weekly program addresses various topics that promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships learning materials have been designed for teachers in primary and secondary schools to develop students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills. Efforts to promote social and emotional skills and positive gender norms in children and young people has been shown to improve health related outcomes and wellbeing.
In our Year 3 and Year 4 classrooms, we have been implementing eSafety technology lessons to educate, inform and promote online safety. Parents can also access this resource to support their child's digital education at home. These lessons teach crucial skills, promote safe online behaviours, and provide guidance for parents, teachers and students in dealing with cyber safety issues. We encourage parents to explore this valuable resource - it's free and incredibly helpful. Parents | eSafety Commissioner.
Our Junior School Choir boasts nearly 70 enthusiastic students who gather weekly for practice. Led by Nina Prideaux, with Carmel Slater on piano, the choir fill the assembly area on Wednesday afternoons with beautiful melodies. Congratulations to the Junior School Choir on a strong performance at our Foundation Day Assembly. It was wonderful to see our students perform the National Anthem and 'Lizzy' was a huge hit… Splendiferous! More photos can be found in 'College News' in this newsletter.
At the Foundation Day Assembly, our Prep students proudly received their house badges, marking a special milestone for them. It was wonderful to witness our youngest members join the entire school community in their first Foundation Day Assembly.
See photos of our proud Preps under the Foundation Day article in 'College News'.
Last week's Junior School Cross Country was yet another successful event! The weather was ideal, the children's enthusiasm was contagious, and parental support was unwavering. Special thanks to Matt Jackson for his organisation. We were very proud of each and every student who participated and competed in this event.
There are lots of Cross Country photos in the Sport section of this newsletter.
Congratulations to Prep A for earning the highest number of values keys, clinching the Class Values Award at our recent Assembly! In celebration of their achievement, Prep A enjoyed popcorn and a movie last Friday. Well done to Prep A for their outstanding efforts!
