Principal's Message

Principal's Welcome

When you set foot on Newhaven College’s grounds, you know you’ve arrived somewhere special.

Our home on Phillip Island is a magnificent 33 hectares of untouched coastal landscape. Our flora, fauna, wetlands and wildlife create a stunning setting to learn and grow.

This location gives students space to think, to learn and mature. In a world that's constantly speeding up, we help our students find calm, quiet confidence.

For over forty years, we've been serving the local community. Students travel from as far as Tooradin, Leongatha, and Wonthaggi daily to attend our school.

The strong sense of community is one thing families appreciate about Newhaven College. We have four sub-schools: Junior School, Middle School, the Year 9 Environmental Centre, and Senior School, all nestled together.

Our size lets us know each student personally. We explore their interests and strengths and help them reach their full potential.

The house structure offers another layer of student wellbeing. Each student has a teacher mentor and House Leader who stays with them as they progress. Siblings join the same house. It contributes to a sense of belonging and community. This strong sense of identity helps students reach their full potential.

After school, our graduates take varied paths. Some head to university, others join the local community as farmers, and tradespeople or work in local businesses.

If you’re considering Newhaven College, book a tour and come and see us in person. We’d be delighted to show you around.

In Quietness and Confidence Shall Be Your Strength

Our Mission

Our mission is to be a thriving learning community where young people are thoughtful, caring, and courageous.

We strive to provide personalised learning experiences which stem from authentic relationships and a deep connection to our unique environment.

In doing so we aim to instil high expectations, promote innovation and encourage critical thinking.

We’re committed to sustainability

All our building designs work with the environment, with north-facing aspects, solar panels and rammed earth in the Year 9 Environmental Centre.

Our school buses are all carbon neutral.

We use clean energy, reduce pollution and balance our emissions by incorporating passive heating and cooling where possible and double-glazed glass throughout.

We protect our precious water resources by using water tanks and recycling water onto our playing fields. We have created a water retention basin around campus for bird, wildlife and vegetation habitats.

We’re aiming to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Innovation

We listen to our community. We cherish the traditions that bring us value, but we’re also ready to let go of what no longer serves us.

From taking action on climate to conversations about gender identity, we’re open-minded about the future.

Experience an Open Day at Newhaven College

Our annual Open Day showcases the full range of curricular and co-curricular programs on offer at Newhaven College. We invite you to join a guided tour with our student leaders, meet our teachers to discuss your child's education future and enjoy the ambiance created by our student's musical performances as you roam our grounds.
